HoN eSports Weekly 7/22
The second Cycle of Carnage in Caldavar has wrapped up, and with it there are two new champions to be recognized! This weekend played host to the Pro Playoffs and Amateur Invitational, with the competition giving us a taste of what we might expect in weeks to come. Lets take a look back, before we look forward to even more HoN action!
Carnage Pro Playoffs
It all started with the final Pro League match between Reason Gaming and The Last of US. The American squad needed a 2-0 win to qualify for the Playoffs, but ultimately they came up short. In the semi-finals Sync demolished their opponents, willowkeeper, while BMG's ringer, Xibbe, had a dominant performance in their 2-0 victory over Reason Gaming. The best-of-five finals was the match-up that viewers had been waiting for – Bad Monkey Gaming vs. Sync eSports. Sync scored first, taking a 1-0 lead, but the Monkeys rallied back, scoring three games in a row to close out the series with a 3-1 victory. BMG takes first place, including the $4,000 cash prize, and will now head into HoN Tour Season 3's Diamond Division with the top overall seed.
The Pro Playoffs weren't the only event in need of tie-breakers this past weekend. Even after top seeded team Dawn dropped out of the event four teams tied at 700 points had to be reduced to just three. The Acid Squirrel Squad was the unlucky victim of the tiebreakers, while The Tyrants, PepsiMaX, and LisaAnn advanced to the round of 8. The first round went about as expected, leading to semi-finals featuring Moes Tavern vs. Instant Reflex, and The Solaire Club vs Twisted Fuzion. In a surprising 2-1 victory, Instant Reflex eliminated the favored team Moes Tavern, while Twisted Fuzion claimed a win, punching their ticket into the money and the finals. The back and forth best-of-five finals featured less common heroes like Rampage and Balphagor, but in the end Twisted Fuzion came out on top, taking home $300, and the momentum going into this weekend's HoN Tour Qualifiers.
Variety Cup #15
Last week saw the Variety Cup head once more to Midwars. Though the Snotter Boss has departed, the usual suspects were once again out in force. The Big Bux Money Crew – AKA the Kings of Midwars – were set on yet another win, but on the other side of the bracket, a new team by the name of k were on the hunt. k managed to take down some strong teams, including the recently impressive EXCLUSIVES. Eventually k met BUX in the finals, and though the first game in the best-of-three was rather slow, the second was a show of force by the BUXxies, securing a 2-0 victory and another win in the Midwars Variety Cup.

HoN eSports Weekly 7/15
With the second Cycle of Carnage wrapping up and HoN Tour Season 3 just around the corner, things are heating up for competitive HoN. This week saw the final matches of the Amateur Open circuit, teams falling into place for the Pro Playoffs, and as always, some action packed fun in the Variety Cup.Carnage Pro League – Week 4
The final week of Carnage Pro League group play finished up this weekend, though the standings still aren't finalized. Sync eSports finished out the group with 2-0 wins over both willowkeeper and The Last of US, securing their upward momentum in the standings. Unfortunately, fellow competitors BMG were struck by tragedy this week, and their remaining three matches were canceled. Accordingly, Sync will progress with the top seed, while BMG heads into the Playoffs with the second seed. The newcomers, willowkeeper, managed to secure the third seed going into the playoffs, following recent wins over every team other than BMG and Sync. Finally, the fourth seed to the Playoffs is still up for grabs, as tUS look for a 2-0 win over Rea to tie the European squad in points, forcing a tie-breaker match on Saturday. The schedule for the Playoffs has been adjusted accordingly, and is available in full on Hontour.com.Amateur Open #4
After four weeks, things are nearly wrapped up for the Amateur Division. Eight teams will head into this weekend's Amateur Invitational, competing for cash and pride, but things aren't quite finalized as of yet. Last week, teams showed how hotly contested the Amateur Division is, as Moes Tavern reasserted their dominance in the absence of Dawn and Instant Reflex, and four teams tied for 7th place in the standings. Those squads, The Tyrants, PepsiMaX, LisaAnn, and Acid Squirrel Squad, will have to play in tie-breaker matches this Saturday, before the main bracket can start. Ultimately, only two of the four will be able to join the Amateur Invitational, but with HoN Tour starting soon, each match will be invaluable practice. Be sure to tune in this weekend as favorites Moes Tavern, Dawn, The Solaire Club and others fight for the title of best Amateur squad in Newerth!Variety Cup #14
Grimm's Crossing was home to last week's Variety Cup, and with a lull in the World Cup, there were quite a few teams eager for some 3v3 action! Early in the bracket, one of the veteran teams, Twisted Fuzion, was taken out by the impressive Rabbits, while EXCLUSIVES managed to take out Silent Division a round later. In the best-of-three semi-finals The Rabbits fell to the Amateur contenders PepsiMaX, while the EXCLUSIVES were no match for another Amateur tie-breaker team, The Tyrants. This set up an exciting finals where in the first game PepsiMaX was able to take out The Tyrants in just 15 minutes! The second map was significantly longer and more even, but after an hour of play and 23 kills to each team, PepsiMaX came out on top, winning Variety Cup #14 and all the rewards that come with the title! This Week's Events

HoN eSports Weekly 7/8
The second Cycle of Carnage in Caldavar is well underway, and the action has showed no signs of stopping. With faces new and old showing great games there is a lot to talk about this week, so lets get into it!
Carnage Pro League – Week 3
The battle at the top of the Carnage Pro League continues, as Bad Monkey Gaming and Sync eSports top the charts once more. BMG took a direct win over their opponents with last week's 2-0 victory, but Sync remains in the overall point lead. While that point lead may change as BMG catches up in games, first place could hinge on the squads head-to-head meet up as the last match of Week 4. In the middle of the pack Reason Gaming and newcomers Willowkeeper are holding it down and look to be in a solid spot for next week's Playoffs. The American Hope, The Last of US, is fighting for one of those Playoff spots, but behind them the newest and most unknown Pro team, Shrek is Love has struggled to find even a single win. With just one point to their name from a 1-2 loss to Reason last week, the Ogres will need to take the rest of the Cycle to practice and get in form for HoN Tour Season 3.
Amateur Open #3
Another week and another Amateur Open in the Carnage event. Last Cycle there was a big race for the invites to the Amateur Invitational, as well as the top two spots, and this time around is no different. Teams like Burrito Gaming, Team Cheesecake, You Love To Party, and more are fighting for a spot in the Top 8, but at the top there is an even more fierce race going on. Top squads like Dawn, The Tyrants, Solaire Club are all in good shape, but newcomers Instant Reflex were the story of this past week. They made it all the way to the Finals of Amateur Open #3, but even the star-studded new squad wasn't enough to take down the top Amateur squad, Moes Tavern. The happy hour warriors maintain a firm lead on the Amateur Standings, and are the favorites in this week's event, and a strong contender for the second Amateur Invitational.
Variety Cup #13
This past week's Variety Cup took us on a trip down Midwars lane. Normally the Midwars Kings, Big Bux Money Crew, are winners in an almost foregone conclusion here, but this week it was not the case. The BUXxies showed up in the event, taking down their first opponent, but it was a relatively new team that managed to take the Champs down in the third round. That team, going by the name Alison, managed to squeak out a 2-1 victory, and made it into the Finals. There they met the EXCLUSIVES, a team that has made quite a splash in the last few weeks on the casual circuit. This time around the EXCLUSIVES proved their experience has been invaluable and took the win with a 2-0 victory, earning the Gold and glory in Variety Cup #13.
This Week's Events
The Variety Cup heads to Grimm's Crossing this week for a Banning Draft tournament. Be sure to sign-up for some fun 3v3 competition; registration is open until the event begins on Thursday. For some Forests of Caldavar action, the final Amateur Open begins on Saturday, so make sure to get some competitive practice in before the next big event is here! For those of you who prefer to watch, Carnage Pro League will wrap up the regular season this week. With BMG and Sync fighting for first, and Willowkeeper trying to fend off tUS for the final Playoff spot, there are sure to be some incredible games.
That's all for this week's recap, but as always, stay tuned for more HoN eSports news!
