Essence whenever Consume is used, or 3 Essences if Consume kills an enemy hero. You may hold up to 3 Essences at a time. Upon death, Essence count is reduced to a minimum of 1 if you have more than 1 Essence.

Staff of the Master increases the Essence cap from 3 to 6 and reduces Essences lost on death.
