The URSA Corps Avatars - Available in Ticket Exchange - Bronze chest now eSports chest

Hey guys,

As most of you know, we've just launched one of the largest community funded efforts that Newerth has ever seen and I want to make sure that you all are properly informed on what to expect so that you can feel good about contributing to the prize pool and that you will be satisfied with the avatars that you get from the exchange.

The nitty gritty of the effort is that 25% of all revenue made from Plinko over the course of HoN Tour Season 3 will be directly put into the HoN Tour Season 3 Prize Pool (20% in Cycle, 5% in Finals). 25% of all revenue made from the URSA Corps Avatars in the store will also be contributed.

But, how will they be released? Glad you asked! Let's start with the store:

  • 2 of the 10 URSA Corps Avatars will be available for purchase in the store for a price of 400 GC.
  • This week the first avatar (URSA Guantlet: Ussuri) went into the store.
  • There is currently no time restriction on how long the URSA Corps Avatars will stay in the store so feel free to purchase them throughout the season.

Moving on to Plinko:

  • 8 of the 10 URSA Corps Avatars will be available via Plinko
  • This week the first avatar (URSA Flux: Uproar) went into Plinko.
  • For this promotion we've replaced the entire Bronze Chest with eSports avatars.
    • The Bronze Chest will now contain all of the eSports Exclusive Avatars (Robotron Repulsor, Jade Empress, Cryo Magmus, Coral Snake Medusa Midas, Sir Benzington, Hestia Gravekeeper, Allfather Odin Tundra)
    • In addition to those, it will also contain all of the Plinko Exclusive URSA Avatars. As said above, Uproar has been added to the bucket this week.
  • We've also kept the Plinko Exclusive URSA Avatars in the Diamond and Gold Chests to further increase your chance of getting the avatar.
  • Lastly, we will be putting each Plinko Exclusive URSA Avatar in the ticket exchange during the cycle that it belongs to. The price will be 500 tickets.
  • We decided to add them to the ticket exchange so that even if you don't happen to drop in the correct chest, you'll be able to claim the URSA Avatar with your tickets!
  • Note: These avatars will stay in the ticket exchange for the cycle that they are affecting and one after that (so two in total). Then they will be replaced with the newest eSports Avatar. Make sure to act them fast!
Claiming your Silver Bonus Multiplier:

Alright, one thing that I've neglected to mention is that you need to claim your Silver Bonus Multiplier in the "Other" Section of the shop. Once you own both avatars, the product will become available for you to claim.

Once you've collected both avatars, head to the store and click on the "Other" Tab in the top right corner. There you will see the "URSA Bonus" item which you can claim for free after your account has two of the URSA products.

To ensure that you are getting the bonus, check for the URSA Corps icon next to your Silver at the end of a game.

Alright, I hope that this has explained the eSports URSA initiative a bit more and now you have a grasp on all the ways you can get these avatars. With that said, let's aim to make this the best HoN Tour Season yet! With your support, I know we can

eSports Weekly 7/29/14

HoN Tour Season 3 has officially kicked off! The first rounds of the Season 3 Qualifiers were played this weekend, and we're starting to see teams pull away from the pack. Outside of HoN Tour we'll take a look at our winners in last week's Grimm's Crossing tournament, and how things are shaping up for the Xfire Midlane Masters.

HoN Tour Season 3 Qualifiers

The HoN Tour Qualifiers are as always, a massive, extended affair. The three-week, double elimination tournament hosted it's first rounds this weekend, and already half of the teams have been eliminated. At the top of the pack are familiar names like Moes Tavern, Instant Reflex, Twisted Fuzion and more. Instant Reflex already had quite a scare during a Honcast match in the third round, when they faced Potato, a team of HoN legends like noobG and FibEli3. Even after a 2-1 victory, Instant Reflex will have to face the #1 ranked Carnage Amateur team, Dawn. The bottom side of the bracket shows a tough match as well, as REXXARS will take on Twisted Fuzion in a duel straight from the Season 2 Playoffs. In the Loser's Bracket, Team Cheesecake and The Tyrants will face one another in an elimination match, where the loser will have to settle for the Silver Division. All-in-all, things are shaping up in the Qualifiers, but there are still two more weeks ahead!

Xfire Midlane Masters

The Xfire Midlane 1v1 tournament is in the qualifier stage, with 16 individual qualifiers for the main event. Players have been lining up for their chance at Gold Coins and a shot at designing their own Avatar, so lets take a look! Like`A`Luke took first blood in the opening qualifier, where NuckleaR` took the first of his two silver medal finishes. Following the first event, Norren, wannabenyhm, Matamig` and boxi won, each taking home 1,500 Gold Coins and a spot in the main tournament. 11 spots remain in the 1v1 event, so look forward to seeing some more fast paced action in the middle lane!

Variety Cup #16
The sixteenth week of the Variety Cup took us once more to Grimm's Crossing. Here the familiar names of The Tyrants and Grimms disUnited plowed through the brackets. The well known squads met in the Grand Finals, but in the end it was the experience of the (dis)United squad that gave them what they needed for a 2-0 win! With over a dozen victories in Variety and NA Cups, Grimm's United is certainly continuing to live up to their reputation as the best around!

This Week's Events

Be sure to sign up for the Xfire Midlane Masters, with a new qualifier every Monday – Thursday. The winner of each qualifier goes to the main event, where 16 players will square off for a chance to create their own Avatar! Variety Cup #17 heads back to Midwars, so get signed up for the kick-off of the tournament this Thursday! Finally, make sure to tune in for Honcast coverage of the HoN Tour Season 3 Qualifiers all weekend long. With big match-ups in both brackets, there is sure to be tons of action packed, and high-level HoN!

HoN eSports Weekly 7/22

HoN eSports Weekly 7/22

The second Cycle of Carnage in Caldavar has wrapped up, and with it there are two new champions to be recognized! This weekend played host to the Pro Playoffs and Amateur Invitational, with the competition giving us a taste of what we might expect in weeks to come. Lets take a look back, before we look forward to even more HoN action!

Carnage Pro Playoffs

It all started with the final Pro League match between Reason Gaming and The Last of US. The American squad needed a 2-0 win to qualify for the Playoffs, but ultimately they came up short. In the semi-finals Sync demolished their opponents, willowkeeper, while BMG's ringer, Xibbe, had a dominant performance in their 2-0 victory over Reason Gaming. The best-of-five finals was the match-up that viewers had been waiting for – Bad Monkey Gaming vs. Sync eSports. Sync scored first, taking a 1-0 lead, but the Monkeys rallied back, scoring three games in a row to close out the series with a 3-1 victory. BMG takes first place, including the $4,000 cash prize, and will now head into HoN Tour Season 3's Diamond Division with the top overall seed.

Amateur Invitational

The Pro Playoffs weren't the only event in need of tie-breakers this past weekend. Even after top seeded team Dawn dropped out of the event four teams tied at 700 points had to be reduced to just three. The Acid Squirrel Squad was the unlucky victim of the tiebreakers, while The Tyrants, PepsiMaX, and LisaAnn advanced to the round of 8. The first round went about as expected, leading to semi-finals featuring Moes Tavern vs. Instant Reflex, and The Solaire Club vs Twisted Fuzion. In a surprising 2-1 victory, Instant Reflex eliminated the favored team Moes Tavern, while Twisted Fuzion claimed a win, punching their ticket into the money and the finals. The back and forth best-of-five finals featured less common heroes like Rampage and Balphagor, but in the end Twisted Fuzion came out on top, taking home $300, and the momentum going into this weekend's HoN Tour Qualifiers.

Variety Cup #15

Last week saw the Variety Cup head once more to Midwars. Though the Snotter Boss has departed, the usual suspects were once again out in force. The Big Bux Money Crew – AKA the Kings of Midwars – were set on yet another win, but on the other side of the bracket, a new team by the name of k were on the hunt. k managed to take down some strong teams, including the recently impressive EXCLUSIVES. Eventually k met BUX in the finals, and though the first game in the best-of-three was rather slow, the second was a show of force by the BUXxies, securing a 2-0 victory and another win in the Midwars Variety Cup.

HoN eSports Weekly 7/15

HoN eSports Weekly 7/15

With the second Cycle of Carnage wrapping up and HoN Tour Season 3 just around the corner, things are heating up for competitive HoN. This week saw the final matches of the Amateur Open circuit, teams falling into place for the Pro Playoffs, and as always, some action packed fun in the Variety Cup.

Carnage Pro League – Week 4

The final week of Carnage Pro League group play finished up this weekend, though the standings still aren't finalized. Sync eSports finished out the group with 2-0 wins over both willowkeeper and The Last of US, securing their upward momentum in the standings. Unfortunately, fellow competitors BMG were struck by tragedy this week, and their remaining three matches were canceled. Accordingly, Sync will progress with the top seed, while BMG heads into the Playoffs with the second seed. The newcomers, willowkeeper, managed to secure the third seed going into the playoffs, following recent wins over every team other than BMG and Sync. Finally, the fourth seed to the Playoffs is still up for grabs, as tUS look for a 2-0 win over Rea to tie the European squad in points, forcing a tie-breaker match on Saturday. The schedule for the Playoffs has been adjusted accordingly, and is available in full on

Amateur Open #4

After four weeks, things are nearly wrapped up for the Amateur Division. Eight teams will head into this weekend's Amateur Invitational, competing for cash and pride, but things aren't quite finalized as of yet. Last week, teams showed how hotly contested the Amateur Division is, as Moes Tavern reasserted their dominance in the absence of Dawn and Instant Reflex, and four teams tied for 7th place in the standings. Those squads, The Tyrants, PepsiMaX, LisaAnn, and Acid Squirrel Squad, will have to play in tie-breaker matches this Saturday, before the main bracket can start. Ultimately, only two of the four will be able to join the Amateur Invitational, but with HoN Tour starting soon, each match will be invaluable practice. Be sure to tune in this weekend as favorites Moes Tavern, Dawn, The Solaire Club and others fight for the title of best Amateur squad in Newerth!

Variety Cup #14

Grimm's Crossing was home to last week's Variety Cup, and with a lull in the World Cup, there were quite a few teams eager for some 3v3 action! Early in the bracket, one of the veteran teams, Twisted Fuzion, was taken out by the impressive Rabbits, while EXCLUSIVES managed to take out Silent Division a round later. In the best-of-three semi-finals The Rabbits fell to the Amateur contenders PepsiMaX, while the EXCLUSIVES were no match for another Amateur tie-breaker team, The Tyrants. This set up an exciting finals where in the first game PepsiMaX was able to take out The Tyrants in just 15 minutes! The second map was significantly longer and more even, but after an hour of play and 23 kills to each team, PepsiMaX came out on top, winning Variety Cup #14 and all the rewards that come with the title!

This Week's Events

Registration for Variety Cup #15 is open now, with the tournament heading to Midwars for some 5v5 Banning Draft action! Be sure to sign-up before the event begins on Thursday. The $500 Amateur Invitational takes place this weekend, starting with tie-breaker matches at 12pm EDT | 1800 CEST, leading into the main tournament three hours later. Be sure to tune in to get a preview of some of the teams that will be competing in the HoN Tour Qualifiers, less than two weeks away. Finally, the Carnage Pro League wraps up with the $8,000 Pro Playoffs starting Saturday with the final qualifier match between tUS and Rea, and then the semi-finals at 3pm EDT | 2100 CEST. Be sure to tune in as these teams fight for pride, cash, and momentum as the HoN Tour season starts once more!

Speaking of HoN Tour... Grab your team and get registered for HoN Tour Season 3! The Qualifiers start on July 26th, so get to practicing and compete for your share of the $70,000+ regular season prize pool.

See you next week for another update on HoN eSports!
